Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. The Application Engineer develops technical proposals for projects, proposes modifications to standard designs, and configures using design and costing tools while working independently to respond to customer inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Applies in-depth knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience
- Screens customer's inquiries to ensure they contain all information required to submit a quotation
- Liaises with sales /customers to obtain any missing information
- Collects, understands, and interprets customer’s requirements for new and/or operating data from customer’s existing systems
- Development of the technical proposal/quotation, including equipment description and specifications, and reviews and negotiates necessary technical revisions with the customer
- Responds to questions and inquiries from the customer regarding technical problems and issues that arise and provides related technical support or assistance, in a timely manner
- Upon customer order, reviews/approves the scope of supply and creates job file per Sulzer specifications
- Understands and provides solutions to large and/or complex problems
- Requires independent judgement, initiative and sound decision making
- Meets with customers on-site, as required, to review specifications and requirements, present and discuss the company’s proposal, and participate in project initiation as needed
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
- 0-2 years' experience in technical sales work with an understanding of how to interpret customer's technical requirements
- Basic understanding of unit operations and wastewater analysis
- Conceptual system aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-motivated and takes initiatives
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Open to learning
