Job description

Summary

Switch designs, builds, and operates data centers that enable digital infrastructure and emerging technology. The Controls Design Engineer will design and support EPMS and BMS control systems for hyperscale data centers, coordinate with consultants and stakeholders, and maintain standards and documentation to ensure reliable, scalable, and consistent infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design EPMS and BMS control systems for hyperscale data centers using Switch standards and design requirements
  • Review design documents at key project milestones and drive resolution of review comments
  • Own assigned Division 25 documentation and coordinate updates with design consultants
  • Develop sequences of operation with mechanical and electrical engineering teams
  • Support large-scale chiller plant sequencing and controls design improvements
  • Identify missing controls components and recommend practical design solutions
  • Coordinate with consultants, vendors, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders on controls-related decisions
  • Lead or participate in recurring subject matter expert meetings
  • Provide technical guidance during equipment selection and system integration activities
  • Maintain controls design standards, specifications, and Basis of Design documentation
  • Evaluate new controls technologies, architectures, and programming approaches
  • Support site assessments and continuous improvement efforts related to cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency

Skills

  • Experience designing building automation, EPMS, BMS, or mission-critical controls systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC controls, mechanical systems, and controls design practices
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, power monitoring systems, and related monitoring devices
  • Experience developing or reviewing sequences of operation
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and controls network diagrams
  • Experience coordinating with design consultants and reviewing design deliverables
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Remote applicants must reside in one of our registered states: AL, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IL, LA, MA, MI, MO, NC, NV, NY, OR, TX, UT, VA, WA
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, electronics, software engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with hyperscale data centers or other mission-critical facilities
  • Experience with large-scale chiller plant sequencing and programming
  • Experience using Bluebeam, Revit, Excel, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, and Procore
  • Ability to travel up to 25% for site visits and stakeholder meetings
