The Marketing and Communications Manager will develop and edit content, plan communications campaigns, support events, manage marketing channels, and coordinate communications projects and workstreams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and edit content: Draft, edit, and proofread newsletters, emails, announcements, presentations, web content, and other communications, turning input from multiple contributors into clear, engaging content
  • Plan and execute communications campaigns: Develop and manage campaigns and communications calendars, including messaging, timing, and audience targeting, to build awareness, participation, and engagement
  • Create communications materials: Develop and refine PowerPoint presentations, email content, simple graphics, and other materials, working within established brands and templates
  • Support events: Help plan and deliver virtual and in-person events, including coordinating speakers and stakeholders, managing timelines and deliverables, preparing materials, and supporting rehearsals and event logistics
  • Support GIC marketing: Help manage our website (Framer) and social media presence (LinkedIn), write and edit blog posts, coordinate the editorial calendar, and support brand and sales materials
  • Manage projects/workstreams: Maintain project plans, timelines, action items, and follow-ups across communications, campaigns, and events. Proactively identify what needs to happen next and follow up with contributors to keep work on schedule
  • Because we're a small team, the role may also support other communications and project needs as they arise

Skills

  • 4-5 years of relevant experience: Experience in communications, marketing, content development, events, project coordination, or a related field

  • Strong project manager: Able to take ownership of a workstream, anticipate next steps, follow up with others, and keep deliverables moving without needing constant direction
  • Detail-oriented: Notices the small things, from typos and formatting inconsistencies to missing approvals and looming deadlines
  • Audience-focused: Thinks about what people need to know, why they should care, and what you want them to do next
  • Technology fluent: Comfortable with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Outlook, and newsletter
  • Willing to learn and experiment with AI tools
  • Genuine interest in food systems, sustainability, social impact, and/or purpose-driven organizations
  • Curious: Asks good questions and digs for the “why” behind the work
  • Adaptable: Comfortable with ambiguity in a small, fast-moving team
  • Client-service mindset: Takes ownership and follows through
  • High standards: Cares about the details and quality of work you produce
  • Team player: Collaborative and willing to pitch in. You take ownership of your work while recognizing that in a small consultancy, everyone sometimes steps outside their immediate role
  • Kind, grounded, and self-aware: Cares about doing great work and helping GIC succeed, but keeps work in perspective. Brings kindness, humor, and generosity to the team, and assumes positive intent, Shares perspective candidly, disagrees constructively, and understands that good collaboration includes respecting roles, accountability, and final decision-making authority
  • Experience with email marketing, social media scheduling, and/or website platforms (Framer) is a plus
  • Prior sector experience is welcome but not required
  • Exposure to human-centered design, design thinking, strategy, or facilitation work
  • Familiarity with budgets, contracts, or invoicing processes
  • Exposure to basic marketing analytics or reporting (e.g., LinkedIn Analytics, Google Analytics, email performance metrics)
