Job description

Summary

ThunderYard Solutions is seeking a Business Analyst to support a Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare technology program. The role translates stakeholder needs into actionable requirements, analyzes healthcare workflows, supports Agile delivery and testing activities, and helps ensure effective releases and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, document, and validate business and functional requirements
  • Translate stakeholder needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, process flows, and functional requirements
  • Analyze current and future workflows related to patient scheduling, clinic availability, appointment management, check-in, cancellations, and rescheduling
  • Facilitate requirements sessions and collaborate with VA stakeholders, Product Owners, SMEs, developers, and testers
  • Support backlog refinement, story decomposition, sprint planning, demos, and other Agile activities
  • Identify requirements gaps, edge cases, dependencies, and potential impacts to existing functionality
  • Work with technical teams to understand application behavior, data, interfaces, integrations, configuration, and system dependencies
  • Support QA and UAT by developing scenarios, reviewing test cases, validating acceptance criteria, and helping troubleshoot defects
  • Assist with defect triage and production issue analysis by documenting expected vs. actual behavior and business impact
  • Maintain traceability between business requirements, development, testing, and releases
  • Support release readiness, documentation, demonstrations, and stakeholder communications

Skills

  • • 2-4 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Analyst, or similar role supporting software development
  • • Experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
  • • Hands-on experience writing Agile user stories and acceptance criteria
  • • Strong business process and workflow analysis skills
  • • Experience working directly with both business stakeholders and software development teams
  • • Experience supporting software testing, UAT, defect triage, or production issue analysis
  • • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, and communication skills
  • • Experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, SharePoint, or similar platforms
  • • Active Public Trust clearance with the Veteran Affairs Department
  • • Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) programs
  • • Healthcare IT, EHR, clinical, patient access, or scheduling systems
  • • VA scheduling or Veteran access-to-care workflows
  • • VistA/FileMan
  • • Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs)
  • • HL7 or healthcare interoperability
  • • Federal Agile software development or modernization programs
  • • Section 508/accessibility requirements

Qualifications
