Summary
U-Haul is seeking a Software Developer to join its Core Services - Contract Software Development Team. The role focuses on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and supporting user interfaces using Microsoft technologies, Kafka, Azure, databases, and modern front-end frameworks. The developer will also troubleshoot applications, manage cloud resources, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions using the full Microsoft stack and supporting technologies
- Implement and manage event-driven architectures using Kafka event streams
- Apply modern software design principles to design scalable and resilient systems
- Provision, monitor, and maintain cloud-based resources and systems via Azure Portal
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and various businesses within the company to solve unique opportunities
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing software applications
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices to ensure continuous improvement
- Understand how systems work together in a big picture sense and integrate multiple applications efficiently
Skills

- Minimum of 3 years in software development and/or bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in Object Oriented programming languages and design as well as strong database experience
- Experience with Kafka event streams
- Strong understanding of modern software design principles and its application in scalable systems, understanding of modern software best practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently and professionally with team members and other teams
- Must be a self-starter and passionate about personal and professional growth within the field
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to maintain constant communication and be accommodating to questions and requests from other teams
- Experience with complete Microsoft Stack and Azure (DevOps and Cloud Portal), Kibana/Elastic Search/Grafana, Dynatrace, Data Design/Creation/Querying/Stored Procedures, WCF/REST/WebAPIs and API testing tools
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
- A desire to work on and explore new technologies
- Experience with cloud platforms and services
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with Scrumban Agile methodology
- Previous experience designing scalable APIs
