Job description

Summary

Amazon is a global technology and e-commerce company. The Controls Integration Engineer supports the on-site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated material handling equipment, including sorters, conveyors, and automated work cells, while developing expertise in controls, electrical systems, industrial automation, and field commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Support on-site commissioning activities for sorters, conveyors, and automated work cells under the direction of senior engineers
  • Assist with provisioning, configuring, and validating Linux-based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field devices per project standards
  • Perform I/O checkouts, point-to-point wiring verification, and device-level validation
  • Execute defined commissioning and test procedures, documenting results and flagging deviations
  • Support dry runs, functional testing, and integrated system testing during startup phases
  • Troubleshoot device-level and subsystem-level issues including sensor faults, communication errors, wiring discrepancies, and basic PLC logic issues
  • Escalate complex or multi-domain issues to senior engineers with clear documentation of symptoms, steps taken, and observations
  • Assist with industrial network validation including IP addressing, device discovery, and basic switch configuration verification
  • Document issues, resolutions, and lessons learned to support team knowledge sharing
  • Work alongside technicians, electricians, and contractors during system installation and commissioning
  • Follow safety requirements, quality standards, and commissioning procedures at all times
  • Communicate status, blockers, and progress to the on-site lead engineer clearly and proactively
  • Maintain organized records of commissioning progress, punch lists, and test results
  • Support equipment validation against design specifications and controls standards
  • Assist with integration testing between field devices, PLCs, and higher-level control systems (WCS)
  • Participate in turnover activities, helping ensure systems are documented and ready for operational ownership
  • Actively develop technical skills in PLC programming, industrial networking, and commissioning methodology
  • Seek feedback from senior engineers and apply lessons learned to improve personal execution quality
  • Contribute observations and ideas to improve commissioning processes, tools, and documentation

Skills

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
