Job description

Summary

ASM Research is seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist to research, compile, and maintain technical documentation for customer and program systems. The role collaborates with technical teams and subject matter experts, analyzes documentation requirements, creates clear and accurate materials, and ensures compliance with applicable standards and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Works with internal teams and Subject Matter Experts to obtain an in-depth understanding of the content, product, and documentation requirements
  • Analyzes existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Studies drawings, official announcements, specifications, mockups, test sites, and product samples, and meets with product designers and developers
  • Uses graphics (photographs, drawings, diagrams, etc.) that increase end users' understanding of the Customer/program system
  • Translates development requirements into required documentation changes; adheres to CMMI Level 3/AIMM platform requirements
  • Proofs documentation to detect and correct errors in spelling, grammar, syntax, and established styles and standards
  • Analyzes requirements of the project to determine scope of work and required documentation products
  • Understands and applies overarching policy requirements to ensure all documentation products comply with those requirements
  • Determines the needs of end users of technical documentation and ensures that documentation meets those needs
  • Produces technical documentation that is clear, concise, and comprehensible
  • Gathers usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers

Skills

  • Associate's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or knowledge management
  • Excellent command of English grammar, style, and editing
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Experience with desktop publishing tools from Adobe and Microsoft
  • Ability to translate technical and functional requirements into clear, audience-appropriate documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment
  • Citizenship/clearance requirement – to be confirmed with Program Security; role is non-SCA and fully remote - Public Trust background investigation to be completed by project
  • Ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, distributed/remote team environment
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder-engagement skills
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Information Science, or a related field
  • Experience with knowledge management practices, taxonomies, and content governance in a federal environment
  • Experience adhering to DoDAF, IEEE, and professional writing standards such as AMA, APA, and CSE styles
  • Industry-recognized technical writing or knowledge management certification
  • Experience with CMMI Level 3 / AIMM-aligned documentation practices
