Job description

Summary

Cherry Bekaert is seeking a Staff Accountant or Bookkeeper consultant to support a law firm client near Austin, Texas during a transition period. The role is responsible for maintaining day-to-day accounting operations, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end close, cleaning up historical records, documenting procedures, and assisting with process improvements and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
  • Process and record financial transactions accurately and timely
  • Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Support cleanup and reconciliation of historical accounting records
  • Maintain accounting schedules and supporting documentation
  • Assist with cash management activities and banking transactions
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and support collections efforts as needed
  • Help prepare internal financial reports and account analyses
  • Document accounting procedures, workflows, and key processes
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, and advisors to provide requested financial information
  • Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and audit-ready
  • Identify opportunities for improving accounting processes and efficiency
  • Provide administrative accounting support to leadership and the finance team as needed

Skills

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of bookkeeping, staff accounting, or related accounting experience
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
  • Understanding of month-end close processes and financial statement preparation
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with client leadership and team members
  • High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Familiarity with legal accounting concepts, including:
  • Trust accounting and IOLTA accounts
  • Case cost tracking
  • Billing and collections support
  • Experience with accounting system cleanups or financial record reconciliations
  • Prior consulting, outsourced accounting, or client-service experience
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar accounting systems
