Job description

Summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems develops mission-critical technologies, products, and services that support defense, civil government, intelligence, and cybersecurity missions. The Sr IT Project Specialist will support IT project coordination, stakeholder communications, scheduling, risk tracking, documentation, and project management activities while gaining training and job-shadowing experience through the SkillBridge program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Sr IT Project Specialist with coordination of onboarding programs, program expansions, customer/stakeholder relationships, and assigned IT projects
  • Attend daily IT stand-up meetings and assigned program meetings; communicate progress, priorities, dependencies, risks, and blockers
  • Capture meeting notes, decisions, action items, assigned owners, and due dates; distribute meeting summaries and follow up on commitments
  • Maintain and update Jira project boards, tasks, statuses, priorities, and associated documentation
  • Create and maintain project schedules, milestone trackers, action-item logs, and status reports
  • Coordinate remotely with system administrators, project team members, and stakeholders to clarify tasking, track progress, and resolve routine issues
  • Assist with prioritizing work based on program timelines, stakeholder needs, operational impact, and direction from the IT Project Manager
  • Prepare meeting agendas, stakeholder communications, project updates, and presentation materials for review
  • Identify project risks, dependencies, schedule impacts, and blockers; promptly escalate items requiring leadership decision
  • Support stakeholder communication and maintain professional, responsive relationships with internal customers and project participants
  • Document procedures, templates, lessons learned, and repeatable project-management practices

Skills

  • * Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • * Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • * Will receive an honorable discharge
  • * Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • * Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • * Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Program Management, or a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required; plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree
  • Meets SkillBridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29
  • * Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation
  • * Demonstrated ability to understand and become familiar with the Lean-Agile mindset, principles, and practices, including DevSecOps, Scrum, SAFe, and Kanban
  • * Demonstrates a substantial, advanced, and significant ability to communicate clearly, both in written and verbal forms
  • * Ability to manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate, and resolve conflicts
  • * Ability to generate cohesive project plans
  • * Ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
  • * Ability to lead teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
  • * Ability to make sound, proactive decisions
  • * Ability to track work accomplished to baseline plans to ensure rate of work completion is sufficient to meet schedules
  • * Ability to understand and analyze project financial data
  • * Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • * Ability to develop and execute proposal plans and strategies
  • * Considerable knowledge of work estimating allocation, scheduling, and authorization
  • * Considerable understanding of the fundamentals of risk and opportunity management and ability to apply them to projects
