Job description

Summary

Giga Energy builds AI data centers and modular power infrastructure, combining equipment supply, engineering, construction, and real estate development capabilities. The Lead Diagnostic Engineer will serve as a technical field representative responsible for commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing power transformers at customer sites while supporting customer relationships, safety compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation oversight, startup, and commissioning of power and distribution transformers (oil-filled and dry-type) at customer facilities
  • Conduct acceptance testing per IEEE/IEC/NEMA and customer specifications prior to energization
  • Support equipment energization planning, outage coordination, and site readiness reviews with customers, EPCs, and project managers
  • Interpret and work from single-line diagrams, winding/vector diagrams, control schematics, and equipment nameplate data
  • Perform Turns Ratio (TTR) testing, winding resistance, insulation resistance (IR/PI), power factor/dissipation factor, and SFRA testing
  • Conduct Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) sampling and interpret oil analysis results to assess transformer health
  • Perform relay and protection testing where transformers interface with protective schemes
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC/LTC) mechanisms, cooling systems, and control/monitoring equipment
  • Document all test results and produce clear, customer-ready technical reports
  • Execute troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, repair, and end-of-life/retrofit services on transformers in the field
  • Proactively identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective or preventive actions to customers
  • Support warranty investigations, root cause analysis, and field failure reporting back to Engineering and Quality
  • Respond to emergency service calls, including after-hours and weekend support as required
  • Serve as the primary on-site technical representative for Giga Energy, building and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Communicate job status, technical findings, and recommendations clearly to customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Prepare material lists, technical quotations, and scopes of work for follow-on service opportunities
  • Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, and internal Engineering/Quality teams during outages and installs
  • Comply fully with OSHA, NFPA 70E (arc flash/electrical safety), and Giga Energy EHS policies on every site visit
  • Maintain required certifications (e.g., NETA, OSHA 10/30, first aid/CPR) and complete ongoing safety training
  • Ensure all high-voltage work follows lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures
  • Maintain timely, accurate service reports, timesheets, expense reports, and job status updates
  • Feed field observations (failure modes, install issues, design feedback) into Giga's NCR/SCAR and continuous improvement processes
