Summary
The Personnel Board of Jefferson County is accepting applications for a paid Human Resources internship. The intern will gain practical experience by supporting job posting, customer service, recruitment, Workday HRIS training, application review, and qualification assessment activities.
Responsibilities
- Shadow HR Staff on Job Posting Procedures
Observe and assist personnel with drafting, reviewing, and posting job announcements to understand procedural requirements and approval workflows
- Provide Customer Service Support
Answer incoming phone calls and assist visitors with general inquiries, offering professional and courteous support to applicants and members of the public
- Observe and Participate in Recruitment Process
Shadow staff during various stages of recruitment, including requisition review, posting timelines, and applicant communication procedures
- Complete Workday HRIS Training
Review system training materials and receive guided instruction on navigating Workday, tracking applicant statuses, and reviewing submitted materials
- Assist with Application Review
Under supervision, review sample or active applications to learn how minimum qualifications and eligibility criteria are assessed
- Observe Qualification Assessment and Certification Processes
Gain exposure to how applicant qualifications are verified and how certification lists are generated in accordance with merit system guidelines
Skills
- Must be enrolled in a 4-year degree program with at least senior status
- Must be studying a field related Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field
- Must be in good academic standing (not on academic probation) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated with a desire to learn
