Summary
KERN Precision, Inc. designs and manufactures high-end CNC milling machines and provides service support for its growing customer base. The company is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair CNC machines and automation systems, provide customer support, and ensure optimal machine performance across the Chicago area and U.S. West Coast.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on CNC machines and automation systems on-site across West Coast in a timely and efficient manner
- Install, commission, and test CNC machines and associated automation equipment at customer facilities
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance, minimize downtime, and maximize productivity
- Conduct machine demonstrations and provide technical expertise during customer visits
- Accurately document all service activities, including parts used, labor time, and any technical issues encountered
- Provide remote and telephone support to customers for troubleshooting and technical guidance
Skills
- Min. 3-5 years experience as a Field Service Engineer/Technician in the CNC or machine tool industry
- Strong skills in diagnosing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and CNC issues
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel up to 75% domestically
- You use modern AI tools responsibly and purposefully to make work processes more efficient, enhance the quality of your work, and support well-founded decision-making
- You identify suitable applications for AI, critically evaluate the results, and effectively leverage the insights gained in your day-to-day work
- Solid CNC milling knowledge; Heidenhain experience is a plus
