Summary
Konecranes is a global provider of material handling solutions. The LLE AME Application Engineer leads the technical application of light lifting equipment solutions across the Americas, translating customer and sales requirements into safe, compliant, and commercially viable systems. The role develops solution concepts, supports proposals and order execution, coordinates suppliers and integrated equipment, and provides technical and field support.
Responsibilities
- Lead application engineering for standard, configured and custom LLE opportunities from early concept through offer, order clarification and field support
- Partner with AME sales streams to interpret customer processes, specifications, duty requirements and constraints; recommend practical LLE solutions that improve safety, productivity, reliability and return on investment
- Develop application concepts, equipment selections, layouts, preliminary calculations, technical descriptions, scope boundaries, assumptions, exclusions and cost inputs required for accurate proposals and formal estimates
- Own complex or escalated local second-level support cases, coordinate resolution across functions and capture reusable technical knowledge for future opportunities
- Work closely with the Konecranes KHA factory to finalize and align offer and order drawings, confirm product application, address technical questions and support manufacturability and execution
- Collaborate with production, order entry, project execution and offer support teams to ensure the sold solution is clearly documented and consistently understood through order fulfilment
- Engage the Global AME Product Line and Engineering teams on product application, non-standard requirements, design clarification, product feedback and continuous improvement
- Identify, qualify and collaborate with below-the-hook designers and suppliers for lifting devices, attachments and interfaces; review supplier proposals for fit, capacity, controls, documentation and integration risk
- Develop or coordinate structural support solutions, including runways, freestanding structures, foundations/interfaces and related supplier scopes required to integrate the complete system
- Coordinate third-party equipment and supplier content so mechanical, structural, electrical, controls and operational interfaces are clearly defined and integrated into one customer solution
- Provide field support for application validation, site surveys, installation/commissioning questions, troubleshooting and key customer opportunities, with travel as business needs require
- Maintain organized records of completed offers, calculations, drawings, supplier solutions and lessons learned; use these references to improve speed, consistency and quality
- Support training and technical enablement for sales and internal stakeholders on LLE products, applications, standards, tools and common solution architectures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Strong mechanical application judgement with a practical understanding of electrical and controls integration
- Ability to translate incomplete or complex customer requirements into a clear technical concept and commercial scope
- Proficiency in reading, creating and reviewing technical drawings using CAD tools; capable with engineering calculation and product configuration tools
- Effective supplier management and technical quotation review skills, including the ability to challenge incomplete or unsuitable proposed solutions
- Clear written and verbal communication across functions, cultures, time zones and varying levels of technical expertise
- Strong organization, prioritization and follow-through while managing multiple concurrent inquiries and deadlines
- Customer-focused, collaborative and self-directed approach, with sound escalation judgement and ownership of outcomes
- Commitment to safety, quality, compliance and accurate documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering field
- Typically 3 or more years of application engineering, product engineering, mechanical design or material handling experience
- Experience supporting technical sales, preparing offer drawings and estimates, and working with manufacturing, suppliers and order execution teams
- Working proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and CAD software
- Light lifting equipment applications, including workstation lifting systems, jib cranes, monorails, hoists and related handling solutions
- Below-the-hook devices and lifting attachments, including supplier coordination and integration of mechanical, electrical, controls and operational interfaces
- Structural concepts and load paths for runways, freestanding supports and associated building/foundation interfaces; ability to recognize when detailed review or stamped design by a qualified structural engineer is required
- Applicable standards and regulatory requirements. Working knowledge should include OSHA and relevant electrical/building requirements, with LLE emphasis on MMA and MHI guidance and familiarity with CMAA where interfaces or adjacent crane systems require it
- Engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, calculations, bills of material, proposal content and supplier quotations
- Risk identification and disciplined management of assumptions, deviations, exclusions, capacity limits, operating environment and interface responsibilities
- Relevant crane, hoist, automation, structural or below-the-hook experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with crane/hoist configuration and engineering calculation tools is preferred
