Back-End Engineer (Talent pool)

Lago is a curated talent marketplace that connects exceptional professionals with fast-growing companies across the U.S. The Back-End Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power web and mobile applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, maintainable server-side applications and microservices
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL endpoints for front-end and mobile consumers
• Design and manage relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices across systems
• Write clean, testable code with appropriate unit and integration test coverage
• Collaborate with front-end engineers, DevOps, and data teams on system integration and architecture
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture planning
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and scalability issues
• Maintain API documentation and technical specifications
• Monitor production systems and respond to incidents, ensuring high availability

Skills

• 2–5 years of professional back-end engineering experience
• Proficiency in at least one back-end language (Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Ruby, or PHP)
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
• Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and SQL
• Understanding of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean code practices
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
• Experience with authentication/authorization (OAuth2, JWT, or similar)
• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, or similar)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and serverless architectures
• Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc.)
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with microservices architecture at scale
• Familiarity with GraphQL API design and implementation

Qualifications
