Summary
Middle East Refugee Aid (MERA) is a youth-led nonprofit organization focused on sustainable health promotion for Middle Eastern refugees and underserved communities. The organization is seeking a volunteer Board Member to serve as Treasurer or Secretary, supporting financial stewardship, governance, organizational records, Board operations, and nonprofit compliance.
Responsibilities
- The Treasurer will assist with maintaining accurate financial records, tracking income and expenses, and preparing regular financial summaries for the Board
- Day-to-day responsibilities may include helping manage budgets for programs, monitoring cash flow, and supporting the preparation of grant and donor financial reports
- The role will also involve collaborating with other board members to ensure compliance with nonprofit financial practices and contributing to the refinement of internal financial procedures
- The Secretary will assist with maintaining accurate organizational records, documenting Board and committee meetings, and ensuring important governance documents are organized and accessible
- Day-to-day responsibilities may include preparing meeting agendas in collaboration with Board leadership, recording and distributing meeting minutes, tracking Board actions and deadlines, and supporting compliance with nonprofit governance requirements
- The role will also involve coordinating communication among Board members, maintaining organizational records, and contributing to the development and improvement of internal governance processes
- Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings
- Serve a two-year term with the opportunity for reappointment
Skills
- Must be based in the United States for the duration of the term and able to attend virtual Board of Directors meetings
- Have a bachelor's degree
- Organizational and time management skills to handle recurring tasks, deadlines, and reporting cycles
- Commitment to MERA's values of refugee dignity, health equity, and culturally responsive service
- Comfort working remotely, using digital collaboration tools, and coordinating with a distributed team
- Interest in nonprofit management, humanitarian aid, public health, or refugee support; prior experience or coursework in role-related fields is beneficial
- Ability to learn new systems and guidelines; prior nonprofit, volunteer, or board leadership experience is a plus
