Summary
Mutual of Omaha is seeking an Engineer I or Engineer II to modernize software and data solutions supporting its Claims organization. The role develops and supports Java applications, APIs, event-driven integrations, SQL and ETL processes, while contributing to cloud modernization, production operations, incident response, and technical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain containerized Java and Spring Boot applications
- Build and support APIs that connect Claims applications, enterprise platforms, and external systems
- Build and support event driven integrations using Kafka and other messaging patterns
- Create and maintain SQL, ETL, and data processing solutions that support analytical and data warehouse use cases
- Apply modern engineering practices including automated testing, source control, code review, CI/CD, deployment automation, and other DevOps practices
- Own production outcomes. Monitor and support production applications and data processes, troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Modernize legacy capabilities by reducing technical debt and moving key functionality toward modern architectures
- Collaborate and innovate. Work with engineers, analysts, product owners, architects, and business partners to translate needs into reliable technical solutions
- Create and maintain technical documentation including technical designs, API specifications, data mappings, and operational documentation

- Experience developing Java applications using Spring Boot and microservices architecture
- Experience building, deploying, or supporting containerized applications

- Understanding of APIs, integration patterns, event driven architecture, and message processing
- Experience with automated testing and disciplined software development lifecycle practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot across application, integration, database, and infrastructure layers

- Experience with production observability, logging, alerting, incident response, and root cause analysis
