Settlement Paralegal

Summary

Parnall Law Firm is a personal injury law firm serving clients in New Mexico. The Settlement Paralegal manages the final stage of personal injury cases by negotiating liens and subrogation claims, preparing settlement distribution materials, and ensuring settlement funds are accurately disbursed to maximize clients' net recovery.

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly firm-wide huddle every Monday morning at 8:00 am
• Attend daily team mini huddle Tuesday through Friday at 8:00 am
• Attend biweekly meeting with Team Lead to go over individual metrics and create a biweekly goal, fully prepared with supporting data
• Enter settlement details on the Medicare portal for all settled cases within 24 hours of settlement
• Verify that all claims on the subrogation ledgers of claims paid are related, within 2 days of receipt of the final ledger, once the claim is settled
• Attempt partial or full distribution of all settlement funds within 5 days of receipt of the settlement check. Anything over 5 days is considered outside ISOT
• Complete final disbursement of TRU cases within 60-90 days. Anything over 60 days is considered outside ISOT
• Complete a minimum of 7 settlement distributions (a combination of full/partials) every two weeks
• Ensure overdue tasks never exceed 30
• Draft, update and finalize settlement distribution packet within 3 days of receiving a Settlement Note email
• Calls, emails, and correspondence to adjusters to follow up for ledgers/reductions as needed
• Verifying subrogation, lien, and medical bill balances in order to complete distributions in a timely manner
• Negotiating all health insurance and med pay subrogation claims as well as all liens in a client's file
• Keeping status comments updated in all cases in Settled 0, Settled 06 and Settled 07 cases

Skills

• 2+ years of direct personal injury settlement experience, including lien negotiation, subrogation, and Medicare/Medicaid claims
• Demonstrated experience creating settlement distribution materials/packets
• A deep understanding of subrogation, basic level arithmetic, high organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks regularly
• Strong attention to detail
• Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
• Organized, focused, and attentive
• Vigorous verbal negotiation skills
• Professional attire and demeanor
• Extensive knowledge of case management software
• Emotional intelligence
