Summary
PeaceHealth is a mission-driven healthcare organization. The Billing/Follow-Up Specialist investigates outstanding professional billing accounts, communicates with insurers and patients, resolves claim issues, and supports accurate reimbursement and billing workflow improvements.
Responsibilities
- Review outstanding accounts and prioritize follow-up activities
- Contact insurance carriers regarding unpaid, delayed, or denied claims
- Research claim denials and determine the root cause of payment delays
- Resolve billing issues and identify the best path toward claim payment
- Partner with patients, insurance representatives, coding teams, and internal stakeholders to obtain needed information
- Document account activity thoroughly and accurately
- Submit appeals and supporting documentation when appropriate
- Monitor assigned work queues and maintain productivity expectations
- Identify recurring trends and opportunities for process improvement
- Help support workflow enhancements and operational efficiencies within Professional Billing
- Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, payors, and colleagues
- Maintain compliance with payer guidelines, contracts, and organizational policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Candidates must reside and perform work within Oregon, Washington or Alaska
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two (2) years of billing, insurance follow-up, revenue cycle, or related healthcare financial experience required
- Formal medical billing coursework or training from an accredited program may be considered in lieu of experience
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated and driven to meet goals
- Strong collaboration skills and willingness to share knowledge with teammates
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of insurance billing processes and reimbursement guidelines
- Medical terminology experience
- Primarily remote office environment
- Regular use of computers and standard office equipment
- Sedentary work
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
- Close visual acuity required for reviewing accounts, documentation, and electronic records

- Associate Degree preferred
- Additional experience that may help you succeed includes Epic experience, previous professional billing follow-up work, understanding Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), denials management, payment delays, or prior PeaceHealth experience
