Job Title: Project Engineer Intern (Summer 2027) Location: Cheyenne, WY and travel throughout WY jobsites Schedule: Mon-Thurs 8am-5pm, Fri 8am-3pm Job Type: Full-Time, Summer Internship Industry: Heavy Civil Construction Pay Range: $25+ hourly (depending on experience)

Position Summary

The Project Engineer Intern will work alongside experienced Project Managers and Engineers, supporting all phases of heavy civil construction projects throughout Wyoming. This internship offers hands-on experience with bridge-building, roadway construction, site development, infrastructure upgrades, and more. Interns will be exposed to real-world challenges faced in the field, collaborating with crews, contractors, and clients to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking for heavy civil construction projects.
Support daily operations including field inspection, quantity takeoffs, material tracking, and subcontractor coordination.
Help review and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications related to highways, bridges, and public works infrastructure.
Maintain accurate records for project documentation, submittals, RFI (Request for Information) processes, and change orders.
Participate in safety meetings and promote jobsite safety compliance.
Assist with estimating, budgeting, and cost control processes.
Coordinate communication between field teams, office personnel, and external stakeholders.
Attend meetings with clients, engineers, and project partners to observe project management practices.
Contribute to problem-solving and troubleshooting on-site engineering challenges.
Perform additional administrative tasks such as reporting and permit tracking as needed.

Required Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Ability to work full-time Summer 2027.
Ability and willingness to travel to jobsites within Wyoming.
Valid driver's license and clean Motor Vehicle Record.
Strong communication skills and an interest in hands-on learning.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous internship or field experience in heavy civil construction.
Familiarity with construction industry software (Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar).
Coursework or practical exposure to construction safety, surveying, or project controls.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction engineering or project management.
