Job description

Summary

UnitedHealthcare is simplifying the health care experience and creating healthier communities through a more responsive, affordable, and optimized health care system. The Accounting Consultant will lead core accounting functions, including general ledger activities, financial analysis, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and audit support while ensuring GAAP compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted accounting partner to business leaders, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Lead monthly closing activities for assigned, including full P&L and balance sheet ownership
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies
  • Perform account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issues
  • Analyze monthly financial results and prepare clear P&L and balance sheet variance commentary
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting activities, including preparation or review of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and reporting
  • Manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely deliverables
  • Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses

Skills

  • * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and / or relevant accounting/finance experience
  • * 3+ years of Accounting experience including month-end close, preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • * Experience working with general ledger / sub-ledger accounting applications
  • * Solid understanding and practical application of U.S. GAAP
  • * Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • * Public accounting experience and / or CPA designation
  • * Healthcare industry experience
  • * Experience with Peoplesoft Financials, Hyperion SmartView and Blackline
  • * Ability to demonstrate solid planning and organizational skills, along with a high degree of detail orientation
  • * Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • * Proven ability to work in both team and self-directed work environments
  • * Proven ability to solve moderately complex problems and / or conduct moderately complex analyses
  • * Proven ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple projects
  • * Proven to be a self-starter and solid time management

Qualifications

Must Haves
