Job description

Summary

Veteran Hiring Solutions is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join their team as they expand their operations in North America. The role involves becoming fully independent in commissioning Dynamic UPS units, ensuring all technical specifications are met, and providing support to the field service team. This position is crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction and meeting project deadlines as the company prepares for increased installation volumes in the upcoming years.

Responsibilities

  • Complete each assigned Dynamic UPS unit through the full commissioning cycle within the standard 10 to 12 working-day per-unit window, from first safety check to customer-signed acceptance
  • Lead the four to five day safety validation on every unit. Verify every wire landing against point-to-point schematic wiring diagrams and every mechanical connection against the P&ID drawings, and report all discrepancies to the Project Manager for contractor correction before any energization
  • Execute the documented startup sequence per SOP, energizing switchgear, control panels, and mechanical systems systematically. Clear alarms and troubleshoot first-power faults so each unit reaches stable operation and is ready for witness testing by roughly day six
  • Deliver the customer witness test alongside the client and produce the final commissioning report, including chart recordings and captures, and secure client signatures converting each unit to formal acceptance
  • Reach independent commissioning capability after working three to five units side by side with the senior Commissioning Engineer, giving HITEC a second North America resource in place before the late 2026 into 2027 install volume
  • Serve as a senior technical phone and screen-share resource for the field service team on units that have transitioned to service, resolving escalations remotely without requiring a return to a closed-out site

Skills

  • Must have served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Space Force, U.S. Reserves, or U.S. National Guard
  • Industrial / high-voltage electrical experience. Comfortable from 480V three-phase up through medium voltage (4,160V, 12,470V, 13.8kV, and a 34.5kV system in development). Military equivalent: Navy Electrician's Mate (EM), nuclear-trained ratings (MM, EM, ET nukes), submarine Machinist's Mate or Fire Controlman, Aviation Electrician's Mate (AE). Maps to: Performance Objectives 2 and 3
  • Reads schematic wiring diagrams (point-to-point) and P&ID drawings. Can validate work against the documentation. Military equivalent: any rating that troubleshoots from schematics, including nuke ETs, AEs chasing wire on the flight line, and fire controlmen. Maps to: Performance Objective 2
  • Mechanical aptitude. Can turn a wrench, make and check mechanical connections, and confirm leak-proof fittings. Military equivalent: Machinist's Mate, ground vehicle or tank mechanic, surface turbine technician. Maps to: Performance Objective 2
  • Troubleshooting under live or first-power conditions. Isolates and clears faults methodically when parts and pieces come together for the first time. Military equivalent: mission-critical maintenance roles, flight-line readiness, submarine engineering watch. Maps to: Performance Objective 3
  • Travel-ready and US-based. Comfortable with high but forecastable travel (see Honest Notes and Compensation). Military equivalent: deployment-cycle experience. Maps to: the full mission
