Summary
Wausau Supply Company distributes building materials and manufactures related building product brands for authorized retailers. The Market Development Manager will drive new business development across the Central Texas territory by prospecting and securing new accounts, providing product expertise, supporting installations, and strengthening customer relationships.
Responsibilities
- Drive new business development as the top priority of this role — proactively prospect, identify, and secure new contractors, installers, developers, remodelers, and architects accounts within your assigned geography
- Be a product expert and solutions provider utilizing all assigned brands to win new business and support existing accounts
- Travel within geography, making calls on contractors, installers, developers, remodelers, and architects, with an emphasis on prospecting and opening new accounts
- Educate and train customers on product features and installation best practices to build trust and win new business
- Identify new opportunities and nurture long-term partnerships with key customers, converting prospects into loyal, long lasting accounts
- Maintain accurate records and utilize CRM tools to track new business development activity, pipeline, and strategy
- Participate in trade shows, sales meetings, customer-facing events and all other events as assigned, using each as an opportunity to generate new business leads
- Stay informed on industry trends, building codes, and competitive offerings to provide relevant insights on all assigned brands
- Enhance the value of each sales call by leveraging your expertise in our product offerings and comprehensive knowledge of the competition
- Conduct job site visits, seminars, dealer, and contractor events to support product adoption, elevate brand(s) presence, and generate new business referrals
- Ability to work directly with installers for job site startups and installation to ensure a smooth process
- Provide sales support to contractors with homeowner leads
- Communicate effectively with the Regional Manager on a regular basis, including consistent updates on new business development pipeline and results
- Communicate effectively with Territory Managers to ensure availability and access to products at preferred dealer/lumber yard locations
- Work effectively with internal departments (warranty, customer service, and accounting) to help provide positive customer experience
- Compliance with all company safety initiatives to meet company goals

- General working knowledge of residential construction (i.e., general contracting, framing and siding installation)
- Strong people skills needed to develop and sustain relationships that would result in advanced sales of our key products, along with the drive to open new accounts
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Strong collaboration skills to align with Territory Managers and internal teams
- Provide effective solutions and expedite resolutions
- Organized, goal-oriented, and committed to delivering a positive customer experience
- General working knowledge of residential and light commercial construction
- Microsoft Office Suite knowledge base
- Highly developed planning and organizational abilities
- College degree and/or 3-5 years of related sales or new business development experience preferred
- Any sales reporting or CRM software knowledge is a plus
