Summary
Ziegler Energy Solutions, a Ziegler company, develops battery energy storage systems and complementary distributed energy technologies. The Sales Engineer will lead technical sales for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale BESS projects across Illinois, supporting project development, technical proposals, site assessments, and customer engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical sales for C&I and utility‑scale BESS projects
- Develop scopes, preliminary engineering, and conceptual designs
- Engage early with customers, consultants, utilities, and EPCs to influence the basis of design, using bid specifications, utility requirements, and project documentation to guide system architecture
- Conduct site assessments, feasibility reviews, and DER introductions
- Interpret RFPs, bid specifications, utility interconnection requirements, and engineering drawings
- Prepare proposals, layouts, single‑line diagrams, and technical narratives
- Collaborate with development, engineering, project management, and electrical sub-contractors
Skills
- 3–7+ years in technical sales within BESS, UPS, microgrids, or power systems
- Ability to interpret RFPs, bid specifications, technical drawings, and utility requirements
- Strong understanding of BESS components (PCS/inverters, BMS/EMS, safety systems, balance‑of‑plant)
- Familiarity with large critical‑power systems
- Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field
- Experience in both turnkey development and equipment‑only strategies
- Familiarity with solar PV, EV charging, and multiple DER systems
- Working knowledge of UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855, NEC, IEEE 1547
- Ability to support basic financial modeling (IRR, NPV, LCOS)
