At Food Access LA, our interns play an active role in building a more equitable food system across Los Angeles. Through our internship program, you’ll work alongside our team, gain real-world nonprofit experience, develop valuable professional skills, and contribute to programs that connect communities with fresh, healthy food and support local farmers and small businesses. Whether you’re interested in community engagement, food access, communications, nonprofit management, or program development, there are opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference.

Development Intern

Interns will be responsible for assisting with communications, fundraising, program coordination, event planning, and on site projects. Interns will learn how to work with board members, speak with donors, and about fundraising strategy for a nonprofit. Click here for more details.

Full Position Details

SummaryThe Development & Communications Intern is responsible for supporting the Director ofDevelopment & Communications with key fundraising and communications initiatives witha primary focus on social media content creation and management of the organization'smultiple accounts, as well as extensive research to support fundraising and developmentobjectives.We are looking for a 3 month commitment with opportunity to extend the internship.Desired Skills & Qualifications• Tech-savvy and proficient in: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, projectmanagement platforms (Trello or similar), email marketing platforms (Mailchimp,GiveButter or similar.), all major social media platforms andmanagement/scheduling tools (Buffer, Hootsuite, etc.), and design/layoutplatforms (Canva)• Knowledge of current social media platforms, including algorithm updates,emerging trends, and audience demographics• Strong written and verbal communication skills (excellent email, phone, and inperson etiquette)• Strong organizational and time management skills; detail oriented• Strong research skills and ability to utilize multiple resources to gather data (web,phone calls, etc.)Project-based ResponsibilitiesCommunications: Social Media Content Creation & Management• Multi-platform content creation + posting using best practices for diverseaudienceso Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube• Serve as community manager for multiple accounts to drive engagement, moderateconversations & cultivate relationships while maintaining brand voice(s)/tone• Coordinate, manage and maintain social media editorial calendar for organization'smultiple accounts• Develop, manage and maintain a media asset management system in collaborationwith DirectorDevelopment: Donor CRM Development & Management

• Research, develop, manage and maintain donor CRM in collaboration with Director• Extensive research to support donor outreach and fund development activitiesOther Responsibilities• Support with gathering data and content for fundraising and communications assetdevelopment (one-sheets, appeals, newsletters, etc.)• Site visits to farmers' markets and events to gather content• Coordination with team members to collect media assets for content creation(images, videos, etc.)• General administrative support, including data entry, digital organization tasks, etc.

Timeline

Internships are based on student’s availability and school schedule. Our interns generally serve between 9-12 hours per week. While these time frames work best for most students, all scheduling, including start/end dates and hours per week, are flexible and negotiated between the candidate and the supervisor during the interview stage of the selection process. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

We’re looking for interns who are reliable, flexible, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and project management skills are also valued.

During the interview process, we’ll consider your educational goals, interests, and previous experience to determine how the internship can best support your learning and professional development.
