Job description

Summary

Harbor Freight Tools is a national tool retailer seeking a Benefits Coordinator to provide administrative and clerical support for its Benefits department. The role manages benefits inquiries and inboxes, supports enrollment and compliance processes, processes benefit documentation and claims, and assists with wellness and benefits projects.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for benefits inbox management (general inbox, 401K inbox, and digital mailbox) as well as inbox process efficiency
  • Responsible for general benefit inquiries, verification of employment and benefits, as well as triage of escalations
  • Accurately and communicates information about all benefit programs offered, including eligibility, Qualifying Life Event, CHIPRA, Medical Support Orders, and Dependent Eligibility and documentation requirements
  • Responsible for monthly new hire process and communication to Retail, Corp, and DCs. This includes reminders to the department of Associate's who have not yet enrolled or completed an enrollment
  • Assists Associates enrolling during Open Enrollment; explain benefit options and changes, enrollment process, required documentation for dependent documentation and Evidence of Eligibility
  • Processes intake and delegation for all Qualified Medical Child Support Orders (QMCSO) for Associates
  • Advises Associates on eligibility, coverage, and other benefit matters
  • May assist enrollment audits for both part-time and full-time benefits
  • Prepares, reconciles, and audits bills as directed
  • Work with current Benefit Admin system to ensure all current policies are up to date
  • Reviews all qualifying event requests for EBSA, ERISA, and CHIPRA compliance in accordance with internal policy to ensure parity and non-discriminatory practices
  • Works with the Benefit Specialists on special projects as directed
  • Works with HR partners to ensure the accurate and timely submission of life insurance claims
  • Processing of benefit related forms and documents
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HR, Benefits and/or Leave of Absence
  • COBRA, Cal-COBRA, CHIPRA, PPACA and other applicable legislation
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Strong computer skills with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools
  • Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone and video conferencing
  • Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
  • The ability to lift up to 15 lbs
  • Must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others
  • CA, Retail and/or Multi-state large (5000+ Associates) employer experience preferred
  • Large HR System (e.g., UltiPro, Workday, Lawson, ADP, PeopleSoft, Paychex, and Kronos) experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) preferred
  • Travel: Up to 5%
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
