At 26 years old, Jonny Imerman was diagnosed with testicular cancerand began his fight against the disease. Throughout his experience, Jonny was lucky enough to haveloving support from his family and friends but had never met anyone his age who was a cancersurvivor. He wanted to talk to someone just like him, someone who truly understood and was intimatelyfamiliar with his experience. In short, he was looking for someone who had already faced the same typeof cancer. This was the beginning of Jonny’s vision, and in 2003, it became a reality when he foundedImerman Angels.Through our unique matching process, Imerman Angels partners anyone seeking cancer support with a“Mentor Angel.” A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor, previvor or caregiver of the same age, samegender, and, most importantly, who has faced the same type of cancer. Our service is absolutely freeand helps anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage level, at any age, living anywherein the world.Position Summary:The Targeted Outreach Volunteer/Intern (TOVI) supports Imerman Angels’ Programs Team, and worksdirectly with our community by providing meaningful interactions via various social media platforms.The TOVI will represent Imerman Angels by educating social media users about IA’s mission,operations and soliciting/recruiting cancer survivors to register as Mentor Angels. The TOVI will workwith the Programs Team to identify and address specifically needed Mentor Angels (i.e. survivors,caregivers or previvors of a cancer type/subtype that is not represented in our database), and shepherdthose recruits through our registration process.Position DetailsWork Schedule: (for internships) A minimum commitment of 12 weeks; A minimum commitment of16 hours/wk.Compensation: n/aOther Benefits: Flexible work schedule; remote work from home
Position Functions and Responsibilities(80%) Mentor Angel Recruitment● Identify, solicit and register potential Mentor Angels via one or more of thefollowing social media platforms: Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook,and/or LinkedIn.o Communicate with recruits using direct messages, posts, emailsand/or texts.o Represent Imerman Angels in a professional and competentmanner.o Educate and inform recruits of IA’s mission and goals.o Shepherd recruits to and through the online registration process.● Make other strategic decisions (as required) to ensure registrants get thecare, service and support they deserve in a timely fashion.(10%) General Administration● Manage deadlines and schedules, and self-regulate your workflow withminimal supervision.● Use Google Office Suite applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, GChat,Google Drive, Google Meet) to effectively communicate with other teammembers and external supporters, partners and clients.● Update and improve knowledge and understanding of issues related to thecancer community. Including (but not limited to) jargon regarding diagnosis,metastasis, treatments and genetic mutations.(10%) Team Collaboration● Review Programs Team meeting agendas for targeted outreachassignments and needs.Position Requirements:● A personal computer capable of standard web browsing functions● Familiarity and competency with one or more of the following social media platforms: Twitter,TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn.● Excellent verbal and written communication skills● General computer skills● Organized and detail-oriented self-starter● Ability to work independently with little supervision● Team player● Able to multitask with ease● Passion for helping others
