Summary
Phoenix Children's is dedicated to advancing healthcare for children and their families. The Health Informatics Analyst - SAS Programmer will perform comprehensive financial modeling, predictive analytics, and population health reporting using healthcare data, while also developing communications and participating in research and strategy implementation.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identifies data anomalies and exceptions as observed in summarized health care data; independently benchmarks data from different sources to determine market indicators for financial and quality metrics; develops core department deliverables and ad-hoc analysis
- Independently and with input from senior staff summarizes, analyzes and creates predictive models of health care financial and quality data to be used for negotiations/contracting, population health management, and strategic enterprise-wide initiatives
- Participates in meetings with internal and external parties, including but not limited to health plans, providers, and leadership to provide data expertise
- Serves as a project lead on small to midsized department projects
- Assists Senior Health Informatics Analyst with data management including file transfer and processing, data integrity review, and ongoing data maintenance using various tools including SAS, SQL, and MS Office products
- Consults internal teams and external stakeholders to understand objectives, decision-making processes and need for analysis/interpretation of information to ensure information provided is aligned with needs
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested
Skills
- BS or BA in Healthcare or Business Administration, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or another business-related field of study
- Three (3) years of experience in healthcare data analytics
- Knowledge of healthcare managed care principles
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet
- Proficiency with data management and the SAS programming language
- Excellent written and oral (presentation) skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and project management skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines and produce accurate work
- Ability to communicate complex issues effectively
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy
- Must have a strong understanding of health care delivery systems, specifically commercial and government-sponsored programs, such as Medicaid. Understand healthcare markets, advanced financial skills, Health & Benefit products, and services

- Strong understanding of the local managed care environment, including, but not limited to, managed care policies and procedures, reimbursements mechanisms, billing principles, and practice management/medical office procedures
- Experience with state and federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid
- Proficiency with business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar
