Summary
Planned Parenthood Direct provides virtual care infrastructure that enables accessible sexual and reproductive healthcare through web and mobile platforms. The Software Engineer will build, test, debug, and ship features across the TypeScript platform while collaborating with Product, QA, and senior engineering staff.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship well-tested features and bug fixes across the TypeScript monorepo (React, React Native, Node/Lambda, tRPC, Redux-Saga)
- Write clear, maintainable code and meaningful tests for the work you own
- Debug issues in existing systems, escalating architectural questions to your tech lead or senior engineers when appropriate
- Work with your tech lead to break tickets down into clear, actionable implementation steps
- Keep your work-in-progress visible and up to date in the team's tracking tools
- Partner with Product and QA to understand requirements and acceptance criteria for your assigned work
- Ask clarifying questions and surface blockers or ambiguity early rather than guessing
- Document your work clearly in tickets, pull requests, and Confluence as needed
- Participate actively in stand-ups, planning, and retros
- Seek out and act on feedback and mentorship from senior engineers
- Give thoughtful code review feedback to peers as your experience grows
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
Skills
- 3-6 years of professional software engineering experience
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, with hands-on experience in React or Node.js
- Working familiarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and REST or RPC-style APIs
- Ability to complete well-scoped tasks independently and know when to ask for help
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to learn, take feedback well, and grow within an engineering career ladder
- Must have US work authorization
- Experience with React Native
- Exposure to serverless or event-driven architectures (AWS Lambda, SQS, or equivalent)
- Interest or prior experience in healthcare, telehealth, or other regulated/compliance-heavy domains
- Some exposure to PHP/Laravel
