Summary
Smithfield Foods is a consumer packaged goods company producing food products including bacon, ham, and fresh pork. The Sales Account Manager introduces and places new products with customers, executes business initiatives, and drives sales growth while managing customer relationships, pricing, product availability, and order management. The role also coordinates with cross-functional teams and addresses customer complaints or problems.
Responsibilities
- **Direct Sales Responsibility:** Accountable for achieving budgeted sales of consumer goods to key customers. Develop and achieve maximum sales volume consistent with sales projections for accounts served. Maintain business with existing accounts for continued growth
- **Communications and Product Management:** Maintain current knowledge of Smithfield’s product management, marketing , R&D efforts in order to increase sales and satisfy customer demands for new items. Cultivate business relations with personnel at various levels in order to communicate product availability, logistics information, product specifications, and pricing as needed
- **Customer Service**: Ensure prompt and equitable disposition of customer complaints or problems; this may require communication with corporate headquarters
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
- Knowledge of the dynamics of the food business industry or retail channels
- Experience of customer-focused and fact-based selling, including IRI, Nielsen and Perishable Group data
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, and adaptability
- Respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
- Ability to work well in fast paced, dynamic environment
- Possess a valid driver's license
- May travel up to 80% of the time
- Capable of sitting for extended periods of time
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
- Frequently required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
- Able to travel as needed
