Summary
UL Solutions provides testing, inspection, certification, software, and advisory services focused on safety, security, and sustainability. The Field Engineer performs on-site inspections and audits, verifies products and production processes, prepares reports, and supports customers throughout their certification service lifecycle. The role also involves extensive travel, customer relationship management, and coordination with internal departments.
Responsibilities
- Performs inspections and audits in accordance with the required Standards and ULS internal operating procedures, consisting of:
- During factory visits, review and selection of products, components and sub-assemblies that are eligible for ULS markings
- Verification of components, materials, markings and ULS Labels for selected products
- Verification of various production records and documentations
- Review of previous inspection results and potential corrective actions
- Checking calibration for test equipment and measurement tools
- Selecting samples and witnessing factory tests (when required) and test records
- Creating and submitting inspection and potential non-conformance reports
- Review of various traceability and inspection programs
- Independently scheduling inspections and completing all other assigned tasks on time (home office arrangement)
- Assists and helps customers with their questions related to ULS services, explains and promotes the benefits of new and existing services, helps internal and external customers to resolve technical and administrative issues
- Builds close relationship with the ULS local office, Customer Service, Invoicing, Sales, Label Center, Customer Advocacy and Engineering departments
- Builds close customer relationship, provides a critical avenue to deepen UL’s partnerships, expands business knowledge, and offers customers extraordinary on-site value
- Delivering the best-in-class customer satisfaction and expansion of services, while maintaining customer loyalty
- Work with customer every step of the way throughout the lifecycle of customer product and support customer’s ongoing certification service needs
- Providing customized assistance to customers such as navigate new product launches, process adjustments and growth opportunities
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices
- Performs other duties as directed
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively is a core and essential requirement of this role
- Travel may include driving long distances, travel by commercial aircraft, public transportation (including trains and other mass transit systems), or other locally approved transportation methods, where legally permitted and authorized by company policy
- Field Engineers may be required to travel up to approximately 60,000 kilometers (37,000 miles) per year using one or more of the transportation modes listed above
- Where driving is required, the employee must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet all legal, insurance, and medical requirements to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Where essential duties require air travel (e.g., inspections in remote locations, meetings, training, or company events), the employee must be able and willing to travel by commercial aircraft
- Inability to meet essential travel requirements may impact the employee’s ability to continue in the Field Engineer role. The company will consider reasonable accommodations or alternative roles, in accordance with applicable law, consultation requirements, and company policy
- Must be compliant with any company driver program
- The employee’s designated home address must be located within the assigned service territory
- Home location is a material condition of employment and is established to optimize travel efficiency, response times, and customer service effectiveness
- Relocation outside the approved territory (including moves of approximately 50 km / 31 miles or more) must be approved in advance by manager and HR in writing
- Unauthorized relocation may result in reassignment, territory adjustment, or other employment actions in accordance with company policy

Skills
- Bachelor's degree or post-secondary vocational education diploma in a relevant Technical Discipline (such as Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology or Physics but not limited to these disciplines only) or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years directly related experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills in both English and local language
- Valid Driving license with good driving records where applicable
- Good communication skills
- Good IT skills
