Job description

Summary

Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services. The Accountant II will be responsible for preparing financial statements, managing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements while also assisting with audits and training staff accountants.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue monthly financial statements
  • Monthly journal entries and analytical review of general ledger accounts to include the P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Assist with federal, state, and local reporting requirements for all Baptist Health companies which includes preparation of corporate, partnership, 5500, 990, and 990-T returns
  • Assist with year end audit to include analysis, audit report, and footnotes
  • Assist with the audits of the benefit plans of Baptist Health
  • Assist with the training of staff accountants
  • Complete other special projects as assigned by the CFO, Director of Finance, or Controller
  • May have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role

Skills

  • BS in Business Administration with Major in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years experience in public or industrial
  • Health care financial terminology familiarity
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Knowledge of basic Windows based PC operations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • CPA preferred
