Summary

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking a motivated college student or recent graduate for a part-time internship in Human Resources. This role will provide meaningful experience in training and employee development, coordinating various training programs and managing the learning management system.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the CDOT LMS and serve as an administrator, which includes managing courses; scheduling and monitoring classes: supporting instructors; recording learning after classes are held; producing a wide variety of reports from the system and formatting them for customers; and more
  • Learn the program and process; receive employee request for reimbursement; process and track requests
  • Support trainers with various tasks, such as: pulling and sending training materials; communication with regional staff in support of training duties, helping maintain the training storage areas; reviewing training materials (e.g., editorial review); and so forth
  • Test e-Learning; participate in development and design reviews; help test e-Learning for content quality, usability and functionality; and build and test data for technical training classes
  • Help create tutorials, how-to instructions and practical training tools that the workforce needs
  • Support virtual web training delivery by serving as a moderator during live sessions and doing other related training coordination activities
  • From time to time, attend training classes led by OED or DMO Training instructors, shadowing trainers and assisting with some training delivery as appropriate
  • Assist with coordination and scheduling of training for classes requested through these programs
  • Other job duties as assigned

Skills

  • A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree related to Human Resources within the past three years
  • Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college, or university seeking an Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in an area related to Human Resources
  • A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program
  • If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school, completed credit hours, and (if applicable) that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. The credential evaluation report must be an official report. Failure to provide a transcript or official foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks

  • Pursuing a related degree, such as human resources, learning and development, organizational development, psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, education or public administration, or pursuing entry level experience in learning and development

  • Knowledge and experience with human resources, training and learning, diversity and inclusion, or organization development
  • Desire to learn and develop
  • Exemplary communication and organizational skills
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Willingness to be flexible, independent, and creative
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, etc.), Gmail, and Google Applications
  • Ability to quickly learn other software systems
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations

Benefits

  • Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.
  • Work can include working remotely via a computer, so the student needs a reliable Wi-Fi connection; CDOT will provide a laptop.
