Summary
Ryerson’s Central Steel & Wire is a provider of industrial metal products and services. The Business Development Representative will build and nurture customer relationships, reactivate historical accounts, identify new business opportunities, and develop strategies to increase market share and profitable growth. The role also analyzes market and competitive intelligence, manages accounts, and collaborates with internal departments to achieve sales and customer objectives.
Responsibilities
- Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities while increasing market share within existing accounts
- Leverage market intelligence and competitive insights to influence sales strategy and customer growth plans
- Builds strong relationships with contacts at all levels across a variety of functions within customer organizations but especially with purchasing decision makers; develops customer trust and confidence in Central Steel and its representatives
- Compiles and analyzes statistics pertinent to the company's business development program and makes recommendations or suggestions as appropriate
- Works closely with our inside sales team, credit center, inventory managers, and other departments within the company to creatively achieve both company and customer objectives
- Monitors market conditions, industry trends, and competitive activity, providing actionable market intelligence to leadership to support sales strategy, pricing decisions, and business planning grows new business by increasing sales through profitable transactional growth
- Consistently achieve sales, profitability, and account development objectives through effective territory and account management
- Develops and executes sales and commercial initiatives designed to increase market penetration, strengthen customer relationships, and promote the adoption of the company's e-commerce capabilities

Skills
- Or related experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of previous sales experience in the metals service center industry or similar industrial sales background
- Proficiency with MS Office a must
- Strong business acumen with excellent customer service, interpersonal and both oral and written communication skills; persuasive negotiation skills with the ability to work within a team or individual environment
- Effective problem-solving/conflict-resolution skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Highly motivated with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships quickly
- An aggressive, competitive, and self-motivated attitude is essential
- Bachelor's degree preferred (preferably in marketing, business, or a related field of study)
- SAP and Salesforce.com experience are highly desired
